Investigations & Surveillance
Professional surveillance Insurance Fraud is the specialty of DMI's Division of Investigation, which is committed to sound business ethics and standards.

Our investigative experts are professionals who operate efficiently because we understand the insurance claims industry.  DMI believes too many investigative agencies are motivated to provide volume billing instead of excellent product.  Too often, you are exposed to poorly equipped and untrained "investigators" who lack the experience to meet the challenges of various insurance claims abuses.

The first documented case of insurance fraud occurred in London in 1730, when a very enterprising and avaricious father-daughter team faked the daughter's death on three different occasions.  These con artists collected 3,000 pounds from three insurers -- and the practice continues today, to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars annually.

From arson to auto fraud rings, form product liability to personal injury claims, from employee groups to Workers' Compensations issues -- what can you do?  In the past, some suggestions have included:

  • raise premiums
  • put cameras in every business place in America
  • fire everyone and build 50,000,000 robots

None of these is a really good solution, but using ethical and professional investigation is a very good solution to questionable claims that are soaring out of control.

Professional surveillance When it comes to investigations and surveillance, DMI knows what you need ... when you need it ... and how you want us to get it for you!
DMI Investigations Service Profile:

Contestable Death Claims Reports: Our procedure is to conduct a comprehensive background check, obtain medical files, review autopsy results, and interview witnesses.  Next we provide you with a professional report that often documents the presence of illnesses such as AIDS, cancer or heart disease that existed prior to the inception of the insured's coverage.

Workers' Compensation - Personal Injury Claims: Our staff of investigators will begin with a background check of all available public records indices to verify addresses and vehicles.  We can tell you what the claimant has been up to during the past few years by checking for Civil and Criminal Court cases, U.C.C. filings, fictitious name registers, marriages, divorces, bankruptcies, etc.  Too often, debt pressure or divorce can motivate one to file a fraudulent claim for some "quick easy money."

Prior to all surveillance work, or as a spot check procedure to see if a disabled claimant is working, we conduct a quick PRE-SURVEILLANCE check of the claimant's residence to ensure the cost effective use of your investigative investment.  No one wants to expend a surveillance on an empty house.  The claimant could have moved (without telling you) or might be down in the Bahamas, spending your money for a few days ... not the type of "rehab" you had in mind!

Mobile and Stationary Sub-Rosa Surveillance: Professional surveillance
Our still cameras are all 35mm and long lens equipped.  We mount all photos in sheet protectors and provide you with an index page for individual identification.  We use modern, high quality color video equipment, providing time and date display.  We can even give you prints of video frames that the still camera didn't get.

Statements and Declarations:   We will prepare handwritten and/or typed statements from witnesses, claimants, or informants.  Our Declarations are professionally prepared and court worthy documents obtained by DMI's experienced investigators who have testified in court and know what the judges will accept.  Your attorneys will go to trial feeling assured that the documentation we provide is accurate, honest, and that nothing relevant has been overlooked or omitted.

Trial Preparation Assistance: To lend additional support and assistance to your defense law firms when they prepare for trials and hearings, DMI can secure completed interrogatories, locate and interview witnesses, and accomplish service of subpoena or summons and complaint. DMI assists at every step of the way
Post Trial Jury Polls: In cases involving product liability or medical malpractice litigation, we will complete an expedient and comprehensive post trial jury poll in an effort to combat "Motions for Additur" or to support Motions for Retrial.

Service and Savings

Medical Records Retrieval at DMI is accurate and expedient.  While hospitals normally do not present a problem in this area, our experience has shown us that a "plaintiff oriented" M.D. or D.C. often responds to (mailed) authorizations or subpoenas by sending you only that portion of their records they want you to see.  In cases where the medical provider is suspect, we can usually serve the document and obtain the file copies the same day ... even using our own portable copy machines, if necessary.

Secure Document Storage Facilities: All of our file folders, photo negatives, and videotape masters are labeled and stored in a secured, temperature-controlled, authentic bank vault.  We will provide you with duplicates and enlargements, but we must keep the originals in accordance with the general rules of court and normal chain of custody laws required by most judges.  To ensure proper disposal methods, we have on-premises document shredders that are GSA approved.

Service and Savings: We will enhance your efforts to reduce your claims expenses by tailoring our services to fit your specific needs and budget.

DMI Call on the Eagle Eye of DMI -- We want to meld our professional expertise with your resource structure to meet your needs and help you maximize your healthcare dollars.
